200th Anniversary of Reform Synagogues in Germany exhibition/catalogue/symposium in 2010 The inauguration of the Jacobstemple at Seesen in 1810 marked an important event in the history of the Jewish reform movement. With the erection of this building, the first „temple“ of the reform movement, Israel Jacobson expressed his ideas of the new and modern Judaism in architecture. The exhibition will present the development of the Jewish reform movement in Germany from different aspects. The architecture of the synagogues will be in the focus of each section, explaining its historic, religious and cultural background. A catalogue containing papers of a scientific symposium is planned for publication. The exhibition will be shown at the Braunschweigisches Landesmuseum, but will probably also travel to other museums in Germany or other countries. In February 2005, a team consisting of the Bet Tfila, the Braunschweigisches Landesmuseum and other interested people met to discuss the concept of the exhibition and prepare applications for financial support to be submitted. |
