The History of Buildings and Facilities of Jewish Communities in Germany Since 1945

Supported by the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungs-gemeinschaft, DFG) 2006 to 2008

Since 1945, more than hundred synagogues, community centers, cemetery buildings and other facilities of Jewish communities were built in Germany. Describing their history and development is the aim of a three years project carried out by Ulrich Knufinke at the Bet Tfila – Research Unit for Jewish Architecture in Europe.

First results of the project are published at the website of the Central Council of Jews in Germany (Zentralrat der Juden in Deutschland). Photos, descriptions and short information about the history of the buildings give an overview of synagogues actually run by Jewish communities in Germany.

The data are also inserted into the data base www.synagogen.info.

For further information, please, find an article (German only) by Ulrich Knufinke here that was published in "Synagogenarchitektur in Deutschland".
