International Congress "Jewish Architecture in Europe"

The Bet Tfila – Research Unit for Jewish Architecture in Europe organises an international Congress on „Jewish Architecture in Europe“ which will take place in Technisch Universität Braunschweig 8th -11th October 2007.

Speakers from several countries in Europe, the USA and Israel will report and discuss actual results of their research and upcoming topics and tasks for the exploration on Jewish buildings in Europe. Particularly the architectural history of synagogues will be focused. Its development throughout the epoques can be traced back from the antiquity to present, which ,In different regions of Europe, pursued different paths and resulted in a variety of specific buidlings. The National Socialism and the WW II destroyed vast parts of the architectural legacy of the Jewish culture in Europe and even nowadays Jewish buildings are endangered. The lectures will be held in English.
